A double shaft seal by RM Support Print E-mail

A double shaft seal is built–up of two independently working seals. It is not cooled by the lubrication oil used in the compressor package, instead using its own cooling system--the RM-Buffer fluid system. If the primary seal fails, the buffer fluid will leak into the compressor and a pressure switch or level indicator will give an alarm. The back-up seal will take over sealing and the compressor will continue working. You can than plan when to stop production in order to change the seal.

A double shaft seal was developed by RM Support, the Netherlands together with Eagle Burgmann, The Netherlands. RM Support has extensive knowledge and experience with operation between the main parts of the compressor unit, and maintaining and upgrading compressors units.

A few years ago RM Support recognized its customers' need for “safe seals”; this lead to cooperation with Eagle Burgmann, the seal specialist. The result is the double shaft seal with a pre-warning system, now used by the Dutch navy and many others.
